Settling in Paradise

On May 30th, with Daddy already having left two weeks prior, P and I boarded a plane from LAX (Los Angeles) to HNL (Honolulu) and then on to ITO (Hilo) with a few bins of our most important belongings and a couple of backpacks in tow. P was a CHAMP. Our regular discussions prior about what was going on paid off because she wasn't taken by surprise, and was really more just excited to be going on a plane ride again. She slept half of the flight to HNL, and enjoyed our layover there.

Some weeks prior P had decided she was very serious about potty training, and did have an accident that day, and has continued to show signs of regression. That is really the only real bummer about the ordeal since she was doing so well. But I'm glad to report that she isn't really showing any signs of stress. She tells me she likes Hawaii.

There is a lot for her to love, afterall. She likes animals, and there are many here. Chickens often wonder onto the yard out front from next door in the morning. My mother also has a dog named Buster, who I raised a good deal. They are becomming fast friends, however much they can be expected to. Buster is a large, hyper dog and not ideal for small children in many ways but I'm impressed by the both of them together. No tails being pulled and no one being knocked to the floor. Success I say!

I've started my new job. I successfully tranferred, yay! And Daddy actually secured a position as well before we made it into town, although he just had his first day today, training in Honoluly no less!

P is getting to spend more time with Grandma and really loves it a lot. Today was probably also P's first day relying on Grandma as her caretaker while Mommy and Daddy were at work for most of the day. Both are exhausted. Another success I say!

P does indeed love Hawaii. I know she misses some of her closest pals though- Nana, cousins, uncles and aunties. I hope to get her involved in activities to get her around other children more often soon.

2 Years 3 Months!

There is going to be some big changes in our household.   It looks like we are Hawaii bound!  More on that later.

The antics this girl is always up to keep us all laughing for sure.  Here she is pretending a workout bench is her bed.

2 Year's Old!

Finally fixed my big phone problems so I'm hoping this means frequent postings again. Still have to address the laptop issues though.  And there are bigger fish to fry yet! We'll see.

Writing this post with my wiggle worm tucked into my side in a mostly dark room. I love napping with her still on my days off. This one is really late.

P turned 2 on November 25th.  I'm insanely proud.  We celebrated informally at Giggles N Hugs .Glendale,  where I scored us a 2 year membership! On their opening day earlier in the month I was one of the first 25 there. I'd do anything for this kid.

Mother's Day 2013

I wish I had photos from today, but I was plagued by a nearly dead cell phone battery all day. I had a good time. It all started with a homemade french toast breakfast with eggs and potatoes. On top of the french toast was ricotta & a strawberry compote. YUM!

Then we went to Elysian Park. I ate soft serve and painted my toenails on a blanket in the shade and watched P run around with her Daddy, and her Nana. I read a magazine, and didn't even realize it was nearly a year old until I was done reading it. Goes to show how out of touch I've become!

In the evening we headed to Little Tokyo where we had sushi at Oomasa for dinner. I had my regular order- masago sushi w/quail egg along with some spicy tuna, toro. P dined on white rice (we rarely give this to her), salmon, even a little spicy tuna. Oh- and TONS of ice. That's her new fave at all restaurants, and nearly one of the only ways we can make it though a sit down meal anywhere!!

At home it was so, so very hot in LA. It took nearly an hour and a half to get her relaxed enough to sleep. Tomorrow we'll take it easy and I'll do some laundry.

Video Post: Bulletproof Lunch With Toddler

Video Post: Bulletproof Lunch With Toddler

I know I'm bad at remaining consistent enough to give this blog a true direction but I had a bit of inspiration to make more posts about something we've all been interested in at home lately, and that of course is the new "diet" we've been following. So far this diet has been resulting in me gaining muscle weight, and losing fat weight WITHOUT working out. Basically while the scale has only given me a 5lb± loss I've been losing inches all over my body. Clothes went from fitting better to being too loose.

According to the diet's expert, Dave Asprey, this is a diet not just safe but ideal for all people, including children. Persephone has been sharing meals just the same as the rest of the family, and I decided to blog a little bit about how that is going, and how she is enjoying it.

The meal we are eating, as I said in the video, is inspired by Asprey's Upgraded Chef, a recipe guide to the diet he designed, The Bulletproof Diet. Asprey claims to have lost 100lbs without working out.

This soup has the following ingredients, some of which I failed to mention in the video:

  • leeks
  • carrots
  • celery
  • zucchini
  • kale
  • broccoli
  • water
  • apple cider vinegar
  • sea salt
  • fenugreek
  • cloves
  • grassfed salted butter
  • grassfed organic beef shank
  • MCT oil

As you can see in the video, P is a pro at eating her veggies. I'm so proud!

Weening & Feeding

I can't say that our weening from the breast is going well.  Despite the fact that she is a pro eater, and eats a variety of healthy foods everyday, she still has a very strong attachment to breastfeeding.  P currently still feeds 2-3 times a day at nearly 16mos of age.  She demands the breast the moments she wakes, likes a feeding at naptime, and of course at bedtime she has one more.    If we are out and about, especially if we are in a car, we can often get away with skipping the second feeding, but if I try to get away with skipping the first we get a full on tatrum session.

And the attachment is most certainly emotional, P's feeding is going as well as it could.  She eats three pretty sizable toddler meals a day and has two snacks in between.  In fact, she is a bottomless pit.  Here is her typical menu:

BREAKFAST
One whole egg, scrambled with a small handful of chopped green veggies and a sprinkle of cheddar
Small handful of blueberries or tangerine (optional)
7 ounces whole raw milk

SNACK
One half to a whole small apple

LUNCH
One half chicken breast
Small handful veggie or fruit
7 ounces whole raw milk

SNACK
One medium banana

DINNER
One half chopped avocado
Small handful of chopped cheese
3-4 ounces whole raw milk

I dunno, for a baby around 20 pounds that seems like a ton of food!
